Wright-Phillips asks to speak to Chelsea

Manchester City officials have confirmed that Shaun Wright-Phillips has sought permission to speak to Chelsea over a proposed move after missing their friendly match with Macclesfield Town this afternoon due to ‘illness’.

“Our chairman has spoken to Shaun on the way from the ground and Shaun has asked the club for permission to talk to Chelsea,” said a City spokesman.

“Shaun has expressed a desire for Manchester City to reach an agreement with Chelsea over his transfer.”

City refuse permission · Update

Manchester City will not let Shaun Wright-Phillips talk to Chelsea until they have agreed a fee for the England international.

City turned down a £20m bid from Chelsea on Friday, since when there has been no further contact from Stamford Bridge.
