32-year-old Bayern Munich winger Franck Ribery has revealed that Carlo Ancelotti tried to lure him to Chelsea in 2009.
The Italian wanted to add power to his attacking options at the Stamford Bridge but Ribery decided against the wishes of the then Chelsea manager.
Carlo Ancelotti will take over from Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich after the end of this season.
Guardiola has decided that his 3-year long spell with the Bavarian giants will end in the summer and English football seems to be his next likely destination.
Ribery has said that he is already looking forward to the prospect of playing under the tutelage of Carlo Ancelotti.
The Italian manager has won 3 Champions League titles in his managerial career and is one of the best available managers to replace Pep at the Allianz Arena.
Ribery said: “Ancelotti already wanted to sign me in 2009 when he was with Chelsea. That means he likes me as a player and that is obviously great.”
“I think Ancelotti is a great coach and human being. Communication will not be an issue because he speaks French after his time with PSG. I have heard a lot of good things about him.”
As a fan, I know I would have loved to have seen Ribery in a Chelsea shirt.
And even though Robben didn’t play for the Italian at Chelsea, Ancelotti will get his wish of working alongside the Frenchman when he takes the reins at Bayern Munich in the summer of 2016.
