Anfield chief executive Rick Parry has said Steven Gerrard will sign a new deal after changing his mind about leaving Liverpool for the second summer in a row. Apparently it was all just a big misunderstanding!
It seems Gerrard and his agent got what they wanted by playing the Anfield hierarchy like a fiddle: a £100,000-a-week contract — though I’m also wondering if he was threatened again.
What we now know is that Steven Gerrard can forget about ever signing for Chelsea.
I wonder if Rafael Benitez is as happy as Mr Parry? I bet he was looking forward to spending £35m on Spanish players.
The Reds who burnt their Gerrard shirts for the TV cameras outside Anfield yesterday must feel just a little bit stupid.
