After losing out to Arsenal in the chase for Theo Walcott, acknowledged to be one of England’s most exciting prospects, the Times newspaper is reporting that Chelsea is close to agreeing a deal for one of the world’s most exciting prospects, DC United’s 16-year-old forward Freddy Adu.
The report states that a deal worth an initial £5m is close to completion; agreements with Major League Soccer, which owns his registration, are imminent.
In the past Adu himself has expressed a love for Chelsea; last summer he played against the Blues for DC United in a friendly in Washington and said that “hopefully one day I can end up playing with those guys rather than against them. They’re my favourite team in the world.”?
