Chelsea Centre Back Agrees Deal To Join Marseille

Papy Djilobodji

27-year old centre back, Papy Djilobodji may just have wait a little longer for his Premier League debut.

He’s set to join Marseille on loan until the end of the season according to The Express, which is a surprising turn of events after the player was ready to move to Stuttgart instead.

Marseille apparently got involved in the deal at the 11th hour and Djilobodji has opted to return to France (after joining from Nantes at the start of the season). The French club will look to have an option to make the loan move permanent at the end of the season.

Djilobodji’s only appearance for Chelsea was in the League Cup win at Walsall where he came off the bench late in the game.

Not only has he not made a Premier League appearance yet, he was also omitted from Chelsea’s 25 man Champions League squad.

It’s fair to say that signing Djilobodji has been a failure so far.

Even once the Marseille loan is complete, he will have another 3 years left on his contract with Chelsea.

I can only imagine that Chelsea will look to recoup some of the reported £2.7 million transfer fee they paid Nantes for the defender.

I honestly just don’t think he’s going to make an impact at Chelsea. If Jose and Hiddink have both passed up on the opportunity to play him then it certainly looks bleak for the future.

Let’s hope he gets some game time at Marseille, who aren’t having a good season by their standards, languishing in 11th in Ligue 1.
