If this happens, it’ll likely be one of the biggest stories of this transfer window.
Chelsea are apparently set to make £20 million bid for Riyad Mahrez, as per the Evening Standard.
Mahrez joined Leicester midway through 2013/14 Season from French Ligue 2 side Le Havre.
His first season at the Club was successful as he helped Leicester to promotion to the Premier League.
His second season was one of graft and acclimatising to the Premier League. Leicester barely avoided relegation and Mahrez managed just 4 goals in 30 appearances.
However, very much the case with most Leicester City players, Mahrez has proved to be a revelation this season.
He has already scored 13 goals in 21 appearances in addition to providing 7 assists for his teammates.
As far as form is concerned, Mahrez has exceeded expectations.
His performance against Chelsea was a highlight and a game which compounded the fate of Jose. Mahrez scored the 2nd goal for Leicester that day in what proved to be the match-winner for the home side.
If we’re looking for natural creativity, Mahrez could be an excellent option.
But he brings goals too. A midfielder who contributes to the scoresheet is worth his weight in gold. (See Frank Lampard).
And while his price tag may seem high, this is the state of the current market. Buying any player in the January window will see prices inflated.
Buying a Leicester player in the January window will need serious investment if anyone wants to secure their prize assets.
