Manchester City have rejected Chelsea’s bid for Shaun Wright-Phillips.
Chelsea tabled an offer in the region of £20m for the England international.
But City insists they do not want to sell the winger and have snubbed Chelsea’s offer because they are determined to keep hold of their prized asset — not because they want £22m or more!
A statement from the Manchester Blues read: “Manchester City Football Club can confirm that we have received a bid from Chelsea for Shaun Wright-Phillips which has been immediately rejected.
“We have always stressed that we want Shaun to stay at Manchester City and Shaun himself has always been adamant that he is happy here as the club continue to build on the excellent progress made under the leadership of Stuart Pearce.
“We do not encourage any bids for Shaun and both the club and the player remain firmly focused on our preparations for the new season.”
So it won’t come as a surprise to learn that negotiations are ongoing, according to a top source within Stamford Bridge.
