Pirlo to Chelsea?
Andrea Pirlo, one of the finest midfielders of the past 20 years seems to finally be leaving Serie A. In the Champions League Semi Final Juventus have their noses ahead against Real Madrid, and for Andrea, finishing his career with the Bianconeri as Champions of Europe would be the perfect arrivederci.
According to Tuttosport, both Chelsea and Liverpool have been in contact with Juventus over a possible transfer this summer. Being half Italian myself, and following the Azzurri religiously, the thought of Andrea Pirlo in the Premier League is very appealing indeed.
In 2009, Andrea was moments away from signing for Chelsea, under Carlo Ancelotti. Personal terms had been agreed between Chelsea and AC Milan, but a last minute counter offer from Silvio Berlusconi himself prevented the Italian from joining the Blues.
Andrea mentioned the situation in his autobiography;
It was August 2009 and I’d reached agreement with Chelsea, the club where Ancelotti had just come in as manager.
Carlo was like a father and a teacher for me, a kind, friendly man who knew how to make things fun.
I’d spent the best years of my career with him. If you’re a player who wants to get on and give everything, you won’t find anyone better than him.
Carlo Ancelotti was my motivation for agreeing to head to London. But, in the meantime, Berlusconi had pulled out a second piece of paper.
With silly season around the corner, we know that crazy rumours will be rife – and the vast majority unfortunately just won’t come true.
But we can hope, can’t we?
