Chelsea vs Sunderland, Stamford Bridge. 24th May 2015
This afternoon’s end of season finale at Stamford Bridge will likely be the setting for the departure of two Chelsea legends – Didier Drogba and Petr Cech. As two loyal servants to the club, today’s game won’t just be a celebration of this seasons success, but also to two of the greatest players to walk the Stamford Bridge turf.
With an ever increasing list of unavailable players, Jose Mourinho may opt to give a run out to a few more youngsters, with Christensen and Boga looking the most likely. A great occasion for them both and well deserved after great seasons outside of the first team.
If Chelsea fail to win, they will be only the second champions in the last 12 seasons to end with fewer than 86 points. Manchester United took the title with 80 points in 2011. Either way, Chelsea have won more games, lost fewer than anyone else and finished top of the pile come May. Deserved champions.
With Hazard, Ramires, Zouma, Fabregas and Oscar all injured or unavailable, there are quite a few adjustments to the starting 11. We can only hope Cech has recovered from his calf problem, and Drogba get’s on to make his final appearance for the Blues.
Predicted Line Up
Cech
Azpilicueta
Terry
Christensen
Ivanovic
Matic
Loftus-Cheek
Willian
Boga
Cuadrado
Diego Costa
A victory for Sunderland would make it their third win in 5 games at Stamford Bridge, making them somewhat of a bogey team for Chelsea. However, with the celebrations in full swing, I am sure Chelsea will be too strong this afternoon, and they will turn the flair on, similar to games earlier in the season.
We’re going with a 3-0 win, hopefully with Didier Drogba getting on the scoresheet one last time.
Enjoy the game, and remember that 90 mins will ensure John Terry has played every minute of every Premier League game this season. What a captain.
