Shell in £3bn deal to buy Abramovich oil firm

Shell’s first big deal as a newly merged entity could see it forge a partnership with Russian gas monopoly Gazprom to acquire a controlling interest in Sibneft, the oil company controlled by Roman Abramovich. According to reports in Moscow today in the Kommersant newspaper, Gazprom is in the final stages of discussions with Sibneft key shareholders, led by Mr Abramovich’s Millhouse Capital, which owns a 57.5 per cent stake in the company.
