Frank Lampard has been named on the three-man shortlist for FIFA’s World Player of the Year award, along with Barcelona’s Ronaldinho and Samuel Eto’o.
On Monday Lampard, the footballer of the year in England last season, lost out to Ronaldinho for the Ballon d’Or, the European Footballer of the Year award.
Unlike the Ballon d’Or, which is decided by journalists, the World Player of the Year is determined by coaches and captains of every national team voting for their top player based on a list of candidates drawn up by FIFA. The title has never been claimed by a player from the Premiership.
This year’s winner will be announced in Zurich on December 19th.
