Former Blues Casiraghi and Zola team up to lead Italy U-21's

Former Chelsea striker Pierluigi Casiraghi has been appointed as coach of the Italian Under 21 team, with Blues legend Gianfranco Zola as his assistant.

Casiraghi takes over the role from the legendary Claudio Gentile, six-time Scudetto winner with recently relegated Juventus and an integral part of the Italian side that won the World Cup in 1982, after his recent acrimonious departure from the role.

Zola, who called time upon his playing career last year, will act as a ‘technical consultant’. The changes complete an overhaul of Italy’s national team management following the resignation of Marcello Lippi, who led the Azzurri to their fourth World Cup in Germany earlier this month.
