Debut Review: Baba Rahman (Video)

Baba Rahman was given his Chelsea debut against Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Champions League this week and he certainly gave Jose plenty to think about.

With Ivanovic out of sorts, Rahman has put forward a strong case for Mourinho to shuffle the pack with a solid performance against the Israeli side.

Of course, Maccabi Tel Aviv are a different calibre to the Arsenals of this world so it may be a little premature to talk of a Premier League debut against the Gunners this weekend. But the cup games are where Baba will be able to put his case forward for a regular starting spot with positions so rarely up for grabs in the Premier League starting eleven.

Rahman was played at left back with Azpilicueta shifted across to his more natural right back position and things seemed to click.

Here’s Baba Rahman’s Opta stats from his debut against Maccabi Tel Aviv:

Touches: 69
Tackles: 4
Interceptions: 1
Pass Completion: 90.7%
Crosses: 2
Dribbles: 3

Only Cesc Fabregas completed as many tackles while his pass completion was the 5th best of all Chelsea players that took to the field.

After a solid start, we’re certainly looking forward to seeing more of Rahman in a Chelsea shirt.
