Lyon’s Michael Essien is in London to undergo a medical before signing a five-year contract with Chelsea.
The French club confirmed today, Monday, that the Ghana international will join The Blues after a €38m (£26m) transfer fee was finally agreed, thus ending a summer-long transfer saga.

The Michael Essien transfer saga looks set to continue for another day or two because Chelsea have not received the relevant paperwork from Lyon to complete the move.
The documents did not arrive by the close of business Monday and as a result the Ghanaian international midfielder will not be at Stamford Bridge for a medical on Tuesday.

Michael Essien underwent a medical in Paris yesterday, Tuesday, ahead of his club-record £25m transfer to Stamford Bridge, set to be finalised tomorrow, Thursday.
It emerged yesterday that the transfer paperwork delay was no more suspicious than that August 15 is a public holiday in France and Lyon had given their entire staff the day off.
