Young Chelsea star Patrick Bamford has decided to tear up the loan deal that took him to Crystal Palace at the start of the season and return to Chelsea.
Quoted on the BBC website: “That was my last game for Palace. If I were being honest, it has been terrible. No one wants to sit on the bench and not play.
“It was my decision. The gaffer hasn’t actually spoken to me.”
Now Palace have been playing some good football this season and it’s quite understandable that he’s not had his chance. It’s always tough to break into a team that is performing.
There’s also a possibility that Bamford just isn’t the right ‘type’ of player to play in Palace’s current style, with Pardew opting for a big man up front, predominantly Connor Wickham.
Yet it does beg the question, what next for Patrick Bamford?
After a blistering season at Middlesboro last year, claiming the Championship’s Player of the Year award, he was certainly looking to kick on and Palace as his first real shot in the Premier League.
Who knows where he’ll be farmed out to next, but I dare say that Boro’s ears may just have pricked up at the possibility of taking him back to Teesside.
