Chelsea celebrates the London Olympics · Update
Chelsea has congratulated London’s 2012 Olympic bid team on their fantastic achievement.
Chelsea became the first Premiership team to announce their official support for the bid last December when Jose Mourinho and several players met Lord Coe, the bid chairman, at Cobham.
Jose Mourinho gave his support to the bid and said today: “It is a big day for all of us as we are back at training and together we can celebrate London getting the 2012 Olympics. It will be incredible. I will hopefully still be here as Chelsea manager, but as somebody who loves London, this is great news.”?
Frank Lampard, another who signed his name in support of the bid, said: “I met Lord Coe a couple of times during the bid, he’s a big Chelsea supporter, and it’s a big well done to him. It’s going to be great.”?
Chief Executive Peter Kenyon said: “This is unbelievable news for everyone involved with London and with sport in Britain.
“Everyone at Chelsea would like to congratulate the bid team on an amazing job. In particular, we would like to congratulate one of our most loyal supporters, Seb Coe, as chairman. We look forward to seeing him at Stamford Bridge for the new season.”
