Wenger confirmed the bid at a press conference earlier this afternoon, where he also announced that Ashley Cole wouldn’t be in Arsenal’s Champions League squad to play Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday.
“We are still in no man’s land surrounding his [Cole] move. I made an offer for William Gallas and that is how far we are,” Wenger told reporters.
Conflicting reports in this morning’s newspapers suggest that Chelsea are either willing to let Gallas spend the final year of his contract in the reserves, or are prepared to swap Gallas in a direct exchange for Cole.
Both seem unlikely.
